2007 comes to 2025

“I got your picture, I’m coming with you… 🎶”

Wait, let me guess, I didn’t even have to finish it and I bet you’re already singing it, yeah? Exactly. When we hear “pop punk” or “emo” music, the first thought is Taking Back Sunday, All time Low, We The Kings, Fall Out Boy, and more am I right? Yeah, I was 19 once, and I lived the glory days. But as great as those bands were, we’ve listened to them so much and would love to hear more from new bands. At some point, even the chart topping artists were just a group of misfit kids playing their instruments in a garage after school or between shifts. You could hear them down the block and ask one of two questions: “What is that noise?” or “Where are they, because I need to meet them!”

On May 16th 2025, I felt like my 19-year-old self hearing “Check Yes Juliet” for the first time when I heard Another One Down! at The Parlour, where they celebrated the release of their latest EP: “Face Reality.” But you want to know what’s crazy? Standing behind Marcus, photographing not just him but the crowd in front, showed me there really is still a scene that’s waiting, wanting, and just yearning for more of what is modern nostalgia. An era of pop punk and emo that hasn’t been mainstream for a long time. As the smaller bands become big, they fill stadiums and concert halls, and ticket prices go from $15 to $40 and then $200+. So while we think to ourselves, “Man, I wish I could see All Time Low again for $15,” just think — there’s bands out there like Another One Down that grind and push and prove their worth for such a spotlight and boy, do they deserve it.

With nearly 20K monthly listeners, their growth is coming up quickly. I’ve seen them play about 4-5 times, and photographed them maybe 2-3, and I have seen first hand how much this band is catching on, how good they perform live, and how well they sound streaming through the speakers in my car as I cruise coastal Rhode Island roads with the windows down blaring them for the world to hear. One day, I’ll pull up to the red light and someone next to me will yell “Is that AOD?” It’s going to happen, trust me.
