We’re Not Talking Shrimp Cocktail
The Shrimp take the stage
Shoreline Summer Fest was one for the books. Two stages a good distance apart, access to Quinnipiac River and a plethora of vendors lined the road through a closed off street along the side of Armada Brewing. With over 1,000 people in attendance, there was enough energy to really fuel the bands on the bill. One of those bands was none other than Shrimp Planet — a jazzy, emo, string-forward band with a sound that makes you feel relaxed as you sip on your favorite beer or wine. When they play live, they kick it up a notch and make it a bit more aggressive, while somehow amazingly maintaining their signature calm. As I was photographing the Shrimp Planet, I could feel their groove come through the lens of camera and my ears.

What’s in the Shrimp Cocktail?
Let’s talk about Quinn: a dad joke-liking, go-with-the-flow type of person. I met Quinn briefly, and man, his personality just radiates. Quinn — lead vocals and guitar for SP — started the band when he met Alec Wright at a show. Soon after that, Brandon Lepore joined in to add a deep focused sound on the bass. SP was a three-piece outfit until Matt Feinburg mixed in his jazzy saxophone and balanced the tracks with his backing vocals. Last but not least, this shrimp cocktail is garnished with Nick Coombs and his electric guitar.

Brandon Lepore
“Goal wise we want to build our collective and provide a safe haven for show goers to feel included in our performance on stage. Brandon [I myself] is influenced by more prog/funky music, Alec is influenced by prog rock, Nick is influenced by jazz mainly, Matt is also influenced by this mainly.”
The last dip in the cocktail sauce…
